After an intensive and highly competitive selection process that drew more than 1,400 applicants from across Rwanda’s five refugee camps, the Ikaze Refugee Impact Scholarship (IRIS) has proudly welcomed its inaugural cohort of 50 Scholars. The journey to selection was rigorous—assessing academic excellence, leadership potential, and personal resilience. Ultimately, these outstanding students distinguished themselves not only as among the highest performers in the National Ordinary Level Examinations but also as young people determined to shape a brighter future for their communities.
Now enrolled in nine of Rwanda’s leading A-Level schools on fully funded academic scholarships, these Scholars are stepping into a new chapter of possibility. For many, this opportunity represents far more than access to quality secondary education. It is a gateway to expanded horizons, meaningful mentorship, and the tools to pursue their ambitions with confidence. It is a recognition of their potential and a powerful affirmation that talent and hard work deserve opportunity—regardless of circumstance.
At IRIS, we believe education extends beyond classroom walls. It cultivates leadership, strengthens communities, and fuels long-term transformation. By investing in these 50 young leaders today, we are shaping a future marked by resilience, innovation, and hope.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our partner schools for embracing this mission and opening their doors to these remarkable students. Their collaboration and commitment make this vision possible. Congratulations to our very first IRIS Scholars—your journey is just beginning, and we cannot wait to see the impact you will create.
