In August 2026, Isomo Academy hosted its annual Model Umushyikirano. The event brought young people into the spaces where decisions are made. It was inspired by Rwanda’s tradition of Umushyikirano, a platform for dialogue and accountability between citizens and leaders. Second-year Isomo Academy Scholars stepped into the roles of different delegations, including the private sector, public institutions, and government bodies.
In these roles, scholars debated real national issues and worked through challenges. They also proposed solutions together. Discussions covered decentralization, resource allocation, opportunities, and inclusion and participation. Scholars also looked at the constraints that affect different groups. All of this was linked to Rwanda’s Vision 2050 and the role of young people in the country’s development.
Through this experience, Scholars gained a practical understanding of how institutions work and how they connect. They also saw how decisions and solutions come together across sectors. One message stood out: Rwanda’s development is not only about economic growth. It is also about including Rwandans and everyone who considers Rwanda home.
